The plains of Moab: if you have been listening along on Bible Book Club’s past 4 seasons, you know that the journey for the Israelites so far was a long and arduous one. (Mostly due to their disobedience, but still.) Here you can see various routes displayed for the path from Kadesh to the plains of Moab. It even shows where certain attacks and battles took place. Just imagine walking these routes with cattle, large tribes of people, and all your belongings. Even with seeing all the reference artwork, I still can’t wrap my mind around how this would feel to the people traveling.
The source for this map is the Holman Bible Atlas. It is favorite of Susan’s to reference. If you look closely, some reference points to notice on the map would be Kadesh and the plains of Moab (of course) but also the wilderness of Zin, the death and burial place of Moses, and the Dead Sea.
As seen in the map’s key, this territory or journey is referenced in Numbers 20-21 and Numbers 33: 37-39. It comes up again in Deuteronomy 1-2 and is highlighted again in the book of Judges 11: 12-28. This amount of references points to the length of this journey and how much time the nation spent on this path to the Promised Land.
